AWS CLOUD DAY
Under the theme ‘Launch Your Cloud Career’, JKUSA Karen hosted an AWS Cloud Day on Wednesday, 1st April 2026 at the Assembly Hall, JKUAT Karen Campus. The event was organised and led by the Secretary General, Joseph Abuya, and the Treasurer, Esther Wanjiru, drawing 200 students from across the campus.
The session was designed as an actionable, guided journey from beginner to cloud professional, giving students a clear view of what a modern cloud career looks like and the deliberate steps required to build one.
Speakers included Lucas Ruengeler, Senior Program Manager at Amazon Web Services (AWS); Dennis Timona, Data Science Mentor and Data Analyst; and Nelson Ngumo, Cloud & DevOps Engineer with over three years of hands-on industry experience. Together they shared perspectives from both a global technology employer and practitioners actively building solutions on AWS.
The discussion covered cloud career pathways, insights into the AWS re/Start program and its impact, the skills and certifications that matter most in today's cloud ecosystem, real-world success stories from the Sub-Saharan Africa region, and practical advice on how students can transition into cloud roles while still on campus.
Live demonstrations on the AWS console — including a walkthrough of Amazon EC2 resources and global regions — helped ground the conversation in what students can start practising immediately using free-tier accounts.
The AWS Cloud Day reflects JKUSA Karen's commitment to bridging the gap between classroom learning and industry, and to opening real, global career pathways for JKUAT students.
